Open water gives us some of the most freedom that one can experience short of going to outer space. Water makes up most of our planet. It surrounds every continent, yet not all water is accessible to boats with traditional hulls. To really take advantage of the freedom and adventure that encompasses the earth, you need an inflatable boat. To help you find the right one, we have compiled this Saturn Inflatable Boat review.
After scouring the options, we chose the top three to use for comparison and looked at them according to our Saturn Inflatable Boat review rubric. This rubric included six parameters. Each item in our Saturn Inflatable Boat review was scored considering its setup time, durability, quality, portability, and performance. These scores were further condensed into digestible lists of pros and cons for easy comparison. The Saturn Inflatable boat is a dinghy built of high quality PVC that can be inflated to full size and deflated for ease of carrying. Throw some oars on the side or strap a small boat motor to the back and you have yourself a highly portable form of water transportation. In fact, this model was extensively tested to ensure that it works well with an electric trolling motor.
What Is an Inflatable Boat?
If you have ever had the fortunate of riding a rescue boat when you were not in an emergency situation, you know just how much fun they can be. Many other types of boats simply transport a land-activity out into the sea. House boats are houses on the water. Pontoons are floating decks. Speed boats are really quite similar to riding in a sport car, except the material passing underneath you is water instead of asphalt.
This is not so for the types of water vehicles we evaluated for our Saturn Inflatable Boat review. These boats may look dinky at first glance, but when it comes to adventure, they are all fun. In an inflatable boat, you are in an intimate relationship with the water. You will ramp waves or cut through them in a spray of water.
Choosing the Right Inflatable Boat
Which inflatable boat should you choose? In the age of the internet, many options exist for getting out onto the water in an inflatable vessel. One can argue there are too many options, in fact.
In this Saturn Inflatable Boat review, we set out to separate the wheat from the chaff. Obviously, the popular Saturn Inflatable Boat topped our initial considerations, and then we compared this boat with three members of its top competition.
Saturn Inflatable Boat Review
The Saturn Inflatable Boat is more fully known as the Saturn 11 ft Inflatable Boat Dinghy Raft Tender, model SD330. From the name, you can gather the length and that it is manufactured by one of the top names in the inflatable boat game. Brand names are not everything, but when it comes to having extensive data to pull from and a solid reputation to fall back on, the Saturn brand speaks volumes.
This model of Saturn Inflatable Boat can be attached up to a 15-horsepower short shaft motor. It can carry up to five people at full capacity, although most reviewers find that only four people fit inside it with perfect comfort.
The Saturn Inflatable Boat looks much like a rescue vessel. This is, however, not its only function. You can use your Saturn Inflatable Boat as an oar-powered recreational vessel. It makes a great fishing boat with a quiet motor attached. You can even use it as a tender vessel for your yacht or sailboat.
The Saturn Inflatable Boat measures 11 wide long by about 5.4 feet wide. It ships as a nearly one hundred pound package. It comes with an all around rope grab line to help keep you on board when riding over choppy water. The internal air chambers are all separate to help manage punctures. The drain valve utilizes one-way technology and comes with a plug.
We found that the rubber strike was quite durable and stood up to the rigors of our testing. You cannot even over-inflate the boat, thanks to its valves’ built in safety feature. The D-rings used for towing are composed of stainless steel that will not deteriorate quickly.
The double layer of fabric at the bottom of the tubes goes far in keeping this boat afloat. In terms of the hull, we found it extremely lightweight and yet rigid at the same time
Everything you could need comes with this inflatable boat, with the exception of an electric or gas powered motor. It comes with aluminum oars, a repair kit, a seat bench, its own carry bag, and a generic, high-volume hand pump.

- Setup Time
The Saturn Inflatable Boat takes about 20 minutes to pump up by hand. You can save time by purchasing an electric pump.
Many users still get rides out of their Saturn after many years of use.
Everything is up to snuff on this boat when it comes to performing well and lasting long. We do find the aesthetics to be a bit lackluster, however.
Not only does this boat come with its own carrying case, it also completely deflates for easy transport.
This boat can easily transport five people with a small motor. It can reach speeds of 17 miles per hour.
- Able to withstand high air pressure
- Drop stitched for extra durability
- Great for fishing
- Easy to inflate and deflate
- Easy to transport
- Provides extra protection against sharp rocks
- Comes with two free paddles
- Comes with a free pump
- Inflation can take up to twenty minutes if done by hand
- Not the cheapest
Intex Mariner 4
- The strong molecular structure of this plastic makes it highly resistant to damage from abrasion, impact and sunlight.
- Four Boston valves on main hull chamber for quick-fills and fast-deflations.
- The keel is inflatable; this results in improved control and handling.
If any company can compete with Saturn in the inflatable boat market, it is Intex. Intex manufactures solid inflatable vessels.
However, just because the Mariner 4 it is cheap does not mean it is lacking in quality. We found this boat to be highly resistant to sharp rocks and other hazards. It fits four people well, and its Boston valves help with rapid inflation.
Ultimately, while it did provide many of the features that we respected in the SD330, we found the Mariner 4 to be a better “day on the lake with friends” boat than a multi-purpose inflatable boat.
- Setup Time
With the right pump, you can inflate this boat in less than thirteen minutes.
The whole boat ships at just over 90 pounds.
This boat requires an Intex Motor Mount if you want it to be equipped with an outboard motor. With the motor it does fine, but the lack of choice means you can’t spring for something more powerful.
- 30-day manufacturer warranty
- Cheap price point
- Great and easy way to get out onto the water with friends
- Needs an Intex Motor Mount to be equipped with an outboard motor
- Not the highest quality materials
Intex Seahawk 4
- Perfect for 4 adults to enjoy a fun summer of boating
- Designed with heavy duty, puncture resistant PVC for comfort and durability
- Contains three air chambers including an inner auxiliary chamber inside the main hull for extra safety
The Seahawk 4 is another great offering from Intex. It may be hard to believe, but it is even cheaper than the Mariner 4.
Bargain prices are not everything, however. It is true that this boat comes with a built-in motor mount and is sold with two paddles of its own. Yet the boat itself comes nowhere near the quality that you can get from Saturn and their SD330.
The Intex Seahawk 4 deserves a spot in this Saturn Inflatable Boat review due to just how cheaply you can own a decent inflatable boat. It is by no means the highest quality inflatable boat on this list.
- Setup Time
The Intex Seahawk 4 can be out on the water with very little preparation.
Many users complain of leaks appearing after a year of use.
You can transport this boat on your back if you have the equivalent of a giant duffle bag.
- Cheapest entry in this Saturn Inflatable Boat review
- A budget way to get out on the water
- Comes with a motor mount
- Comes with two free oars
- Some leak after a year
- Not the prettiest boat
- Other competitors offer more useful features
Classic Accessories Colorado Inflatable Pontoon Boat
- Colorado assembled size 108"L x 56"W x 26"H (to top of seat), Weight: 71.5lbs.
- Two-year limited warranty
- Heavy-duty pontoon boat with abrasion-resistant PVC bottom, tough nylon top, powder-coated steel tube frame, bronze...
They may not currently be the “brand name” when it comes to inflatable boats, but do not sleep on Classic Accessories Colorado. This company has been providing high quality and unique boats for years now, and their Inflatable Pontoon Boat is no exception.
This is the most unusual model that we considered in this Saturn Inflatable Boat review, and we love that about it. Unlike the more dug-in designs of other inflatables, this boat looks much like an inflatable version of a swamp-skimming fan boat. It is only made to hold one person, but that one person will have an excellent seat and keen control over the steerage of their vessel.
- Setup Time
Hand inflating the chambers is fairly quick, but by no means instantaneous.
Both the seat and the inflatable pontoons are created using long-lasting materials.
We really enjoyed the way this vessel looks and handles.
This whole vessel weighs only about 75 pounds and is the easist to carry of all the boats we considered.
This vessel works great when you are by yourself. However, it has only one seat.
- Excellent design
- Cutting edge looks
- The lightest entry in this Saturn Inflatable Boat review
- Only one seat for one rider
- Hand inflation is not as quick as you would expect for size
After scouring the market and scoring the best options, we have some conclusions.
If you are a single person and plan on never taking buddies out on your aquatic adventures, then you may be persuaded to buy the one-seater Classic Accessories Colorado Inflatable Pontoon Boat.
However, if you want a long lasting, high quality, portable, inflatable boat that can serve equally as well as a pleasure-paddling dinghy and an electrically powered fishing boat, you can not go wrong with the Saturn SD330 11 ft Inflatable Boat Dinghy Raft Tender.
